As much as I enjoy the smell of citronella, the candles sure ain’t helping keep mosquitos away. Instead, how about a change of wardrobe? Not only are mosquitos drawn to the smell of CO2 from our breath, researchers from the University of Washington have found that there are some colours that bloodsuckers are attracted to and some they are more likely to avoid. Red, orange, black, and cyan are all colours that they are drawn to. Green, purple, blue, and white are colours they were found to ignore. I may have to run my own experiments thanks to the wet weather we’ve been having and maybe invest in a sleeping bag that isn’t red for camping season.
